United States v. Tata Consultancy Services, LTD, No. 24-7032 (D.C. Cir. 2025)
August 08, 2025
Justia Opinion Summary
An employee of a multinational information technology company alleged that his employer engaged in fraudulent practices by obtaining less expensive L-1 and B-1 visas for foreign workers who, according to him, should have been sponsored under the more costly H-1B visa program. He claimed this allowed the company to avoid paying higher application fees and payroll taxes owed to the U.S. government. The employee also asserted that after he reported these alleged practices internally, the company retaliated against him by imposing unrealistic performance goals, removing him from a key client account, and ultimately terminating his employment.

What is the work culture like at TCS
Reorted in 2024
Writing this while I’m on notice period-
Downright awful. I was hired through TCS digital btw, expected better but well it’s TCS ultimately.
For starters they took almost 3 months to allocate me into a project & get my license created, until then it was just clock in , sit, clock out and trust me that’s a whole other level of frustration sitting there doing nothing.
People will act friendly and sweet to your face but they’re all going to despise you for absolutely no reason , or maybe just for being younger and better technically.
The best i can describe my coworkers would be- hostile, rude, uncouth, unfriendly, egotistic, good for nothing. And the TL, Manager will simply ask you to “deal with it, it’s corporate“ if you convey your concerns.
They will make you suffer brutally until you leave or worst, you will be forced to leave.
If you’re reading this, RUN FAST, RUN FAR. Do not accept that offer, do not get yourself into that shit hole of a company who doesn’t even care if you’re sexually harassed even. Do not fall for the “google reviews“ it’s just not worth the effort and time.

I have worked here long enough to answer this question accurately.
1. After joining, it took them several months to allocate me (along with many others) a designated place to sit and a workstation. Prior to that, we were asked to share desktops in pairs (when the desktop’s user was absent). Essentially, the talent resourcing team and the project head were out of sync.
2. If bureaucracy had offspring, those offspring would likely comprise the majority of individuals in higher positions within this company.
3. Most of the people I've had the unfortunate experience of working with here are unkind, lack empathy, and exhibit arrogance and rudeness (with TCS Kolkata taking the gold in this category).
4. If you're assigned to the wrong project that doesn't align with your skills, you'll face significant challenges trying to transition to a new project. I've witnessed colleagues lose their sanity, health, and sleep due to being stuck in unsuitable projects. They either persistently try to change or eventually leave the company.
5. If you address people by their names, they won’t be happy. They prefer to be addressed with titles like "Sir" or "Dada" to convey respect.
6. Many individuals won't respond to emails or messages on Teams. You either need to call them multiple times or meet them in person to persuade their support with your work.
7. The HR is radio silent to your concerns and grievances.
8. Juniors get yelled at left, right and centre if they commit a mistake or express a concern with their work or project.
Note that I have had the above experiences with most and not all the people. To be fair, I've also been incredibly fortunate to work with some genuinely kind and compassionate individuals who prove that this company’s culture hasn't completely deteriorated.
So, if you are joining TCS and if you’re lucky you will never come to a point where you are listing similar horrible experiences.
A positive work environment and culture are defined by kindness and sensitivity among people; the rest falls into place naturally.
Jury orders TATA to pay $210 million

Jury Orders Tata to Pay $210 Million for Trade Secret Misappropriation
On November 17, 2023 a federal jury in Texas found Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (“TCS”) guilty of stealing trade secrets from Computer Science Corp. (“CSC”) and ordered TCS to pay $210 million in damages. After a six-day trial, the jury found that TCS stole CSC’s source code and other confidential information concerning its Vantage-One and CyberLife software platforms and used CSC’s information in an attempt to develop its own competing life insurance software. The jury assessed $70 million in damages for the unjust enrichment to TCS from its misappropriation of CSC’s trade secrets, and awarded an additional $140 million in punitive damages based on its finding that TCS’s misuse was “willful and malicious.”
CSC had licensed the software at issue to a TransAmerica subsidiary, Money Services, Inc. (“MSI”), under a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement. CSC alleged that, in 2018, as part of a partnership with TransAmerica, TCS hired 2,200 TransAmerica/MSI employees, and then used their access to CSC’s software and knowledge of its source code and other proprietary information to build a competing life-insurance platform.
What is the harsh reality of TCS
Reported in 2022
So let me first tell about some of harsh reality of all IT companies.
Low skilled work is been done by many associates just getting tagged under the name of engineer.
You will be treated as a resource on monthly wages which is minimal to market rates.
Boring life and similar tasks which brings to a comfort zone where if you are trapped you are surely going to lead a mediocre life through out.
Office politics is common in such places where the one which is more knowledgeable is given the most critical tasks and least importance.
Day starts with meetings and end with meetings and all those are of no use.
Now coming specific to TCS.
People at tcs comes with too much hope to go abroad or name of tata's but believe me they get to know the truth in 2 months itself that it's not the exact life they want and all around them in same confused state.
Least salary among other competitors and digital and other exams is just a trap.
Engineers join tcs with a hope that they will study for other exams but about > 99% exhaust with options and when they see their past 5 years pass away with still in tcs and no strong skill in hand.
People trapped in internal project suffers a lot as they can't able to get release and end up resignation.
Those who join tcs in initial phase of life regret a lot as it must be their last choice not first.
Those people who defer from me are also correct as they might have experienced new nightmares too which i would love to hear.
