I like to be upfront with individuals who reach out for help. I’m a solo, and there is a small number of employment lawyers. Right now, a lot of people are being laid off or terminated and seeking our help. Although we'd like to help you, we cannot because of our current caseload. I’m sharing this with you because I’m sensitive about your time and the situation you find yourself in, and also because it is the right thing to do. This isn’t a statement or opinion on the strength or weakness of your legal claim(s) or even whether you have legal claim. You should contact another attorney asap if you wish to pursue your issue.
We understand that it can be challenging to locate a lawyer. So, we’d like to share some additional resources with you. First, consider contacting the Dallas Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service at (214) 220-7444 or http://www.dallasbar.org. They have a list of all kinds of lawyers. Some may offer brief free consultations. Second, if you’re looking for an employment lawyer who primarily represents individuals, we recommend searching the online lawyer directory on the Texas Employment Lawyers Association website, mytela.org. We strongly recommend this resource. I don’t have a specific lawyer to refer to you, but I strongly recommend this resource.
Finally, if you have a claim for wages not paid within the past 180 days, an employee in Texas can file a Texas Payday Act complaint online with the Texas Workforce Commission. A lawyer is not required for this.
BTW, we know that some people contact us just for a consultation. However, our consultations are lengthy and we charge for them. We don’t think it’s right to bring someone in for a paid consultation if we don’t have the availability to accept their case, or if we’ve already determined that their issue is not right for us.
